Easter Island, Chile

We departed Cusco this morning via bus to the Cusco airport where we catch our domestic charter back to Lima. Then we traipse through the airport again to get back on our international airplane for departure to Easter Island. This Monday will be a travel day. We will arrive in Easter Island just in time for a late dinner and bed. Arrived in Easter Island around 7:30pm. Very fun entry via plane…the captain got permission to do a figure 8 fly by of the island so we got great aerial views of the island topography. Saw some of the amazing Moai statues and an amazing view into the volcano on the island. It’s a very long airstrip here which is why it can accommodate our 757 plane. It was built as a backup landing for the Shuttle Endeavor and serves as an emergency landing strip since it is the only airport in this desolate part of the ocean. We have definitely entered the muggy tropical climates now. In the 80’s here and very muggy. Beautiful island with palm trees, great ocean breezes and fresh air.
